Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum signed the mask mandate Thursday after it was passed by city councilors on Wednesday evening by a 7-2 vote. The order came after weeks of steadily increasing coronavirus cases in Oklahoma and, in particular, Tulsa County, which has more confirmed cases than any other county in the state.
Michelle Brooks, city of Tulsa director of communications, told The Frontier in an email Thursday afternoon that the order doesn’t apply to tribal governments.
The Hard Rock Casino, operated by the Cherokee Nation, has required its guests wear masks since it reopened last month. Employees at the River Spirit Casino, operated by the Creek Nation, and the Osage Casino told guests on Thursday that masks inside their facilities were still optional.
Asked by a Frontier reporter on Thursday if masks were mandatory inside the River Spirit Casino, a casino employee said there had been a discussion about that topic, and that guests were not being required to wear masks.
An employee who answered the phone at the Osage Casino responded to the same question by saying “No sir.”
Tulsa city councilors debated for hours on Wednesday over the wording of the original mask mandate before briefly adjourning and modifying the ordinance. One issue that was raised during the virtual city council meeting was the potential for fines and citations for people who were found to not be wearing a mask.
When the ordinance was finally passed, it contained no specific punitive measures for those who don’t follow the mandate. Tulsa police said in a statement Thursday that while they couldn’t cite someone for not wearing a mask in public, they could enforce a trespassing violation against someone who refused to wear a mask in a location that required one.
“If a business or property owner wishes to file trespassing charges upon another citizen, responding officers will issue a citation on behalf of the business or property owner and the complainant must sign the citation and be willing to appear in court to testify before a judge,” the police statement said.
Casino coronavirus precautions vary by location
Getting into the Cherokee Nation’s Hard Rock Casino is not as easy as it looks. Located in Catoosa, about a 15-minute drive east from Tulsa’s downtown, the area’s first mega casino was built in 2009 and has numerous entrances across its 200,000 square foot casino floor.
But like many businesses, the coronavirus pandemic has shifted the normal course of action for the casino. The expansive parking lot is now filled with traffic cones that route everyone to a single destination: a group of employees near the front entrance who conduct temperature checks and give masks to everyone who wants to enter.
“I wouldn’t say it’s been easy,” said Hard Rock Casino General Manager Martin Madewell. “But we think it’s important everyone who comes in here feels safe, whether that’s a guest or our staff members.”
Oklahoma casinos have a massive economic footprint in the state. In 2019, the American Gaming Commission issued a report that said Oklahoma casinos employ more than 75,000 people and register nearly $10 billion in “economic impact,” a figure that totals wages, taxes and casino profit.
When the coronavirus pandemic hit the state early this spring, the Tulsa area’s three largest casinos — Hard Rock Casino to the east, the Creek Nation’s River Spirit Casino to the south and the Osage Casino to the north — all dutifully closed their doors.

All three opened again within a month of each other, with the Osage Casino opening May 15, River Spirit Casino opening June 1 and the Hard Rock Casino opening on June 11.
And all three locations, which if plotted out on a map, form a triangle with each casino about a 15-mile drive from the others, have somewhat different safety precautions in place.
The Hard Rock Casino is the strictest of the three, though that’s by design, Madewell said.
“We decided that we didn’t want to be in a position where we would have a certain set of restrictions and then later have to strengthen them,” he told The Frontier during a recent interview. The Cherokee Nation allowed a Frontier reporter into the Hard Rock Casino to take pictures and conduct interviews during a walkthrough in early July. Neither the Creek Nation or the Osage Nation responded to requests by The Frontier for a casino tour.

“We felt like that would be a bit like going backwards,” Madewell said. “We thought that if we had very strict standards right off the bat that it would ensure everyone was safe and felt safe for as long as the pandemic is going on and we are open in this new environment.”
The Hard Rock Casino is the only of the three large casinos that mandates masks, providing guests with a mask if they do not have one.
Inside the casino, chairs have been removed from every other machine in order to help force some sense of social distancing. To keep people from just moving chairs next to each other, casino staff have turned off every other machine so that they no longer operate.
Further, more than 150 employees work to clean machines and ensure social distancing is taking place inside the casino. Madewell said the casino has repurposed some employees whose jobs no longer exist into members of the “Safe and Sound Clean Team,” staff members in yellow shirts who spray down machines and keep surfaces clean.
“Every department has dedicated some staff members to the team,” Madewell said.
About 15 miles to the west of the Hard Rock Casino is the Osage Casino. Dubbed “Tulsa’s downtown casino,” the Osage Casino actually sits about six miles north of downtown at the end of the L.L. Tisdale Parkway.

Electronic billboards on the exterior walls advertise upcoming concerts and a standup set by comedian Marlon Wayans. Inside, casino staff is masked, but few of the guests are, and there are no mandatory temperature checks before entrance.
Every other machine is turned off and chairs have been removed to promote social distancing, but guests occasionally can be seen moving chairs next to each other while gaming. There’s a sign above the black jack tables that encourage social distancing and signage inside the restroom that promotes hand washing and urges guests to clean their hands for 20 seconds.

The Canadian province of British Columbia will conduct a formal inquiry into money laundering activity following recent revelations of funny money flowing throwing BC casinos. When former RCMP deputy commissioner Peter German brought down his Dirty Money report in June, he guessed the amount of suspicious cash laundered through B.C. Casinos ’exceeded $100 million’ over.
*This means that the B.C. Government’s already low official estimate of just $100 million laundered in B.C. Casinos — which came from former Mountie Peter German’s independent casino money.
*VANCOUVER — Larger amounts of suspicious cash with suspected links to money laundering and organized crime began showing up at British Columbia’s casinos while the province prepared to host the.
*The new report issued in terms of money-laundering schemes associated with casino gambling in British Columbia raised some questions on the respond of the former Liberal Government of the province to the schemes which might have resulted in “washing” a massive amount of dirty money obtained illegally.
At 9:30 PDT this morning (June 27, 2018) BC Attorney General David Eby QC convened a press conference to discuss the release of the much anticipated report by Peter German QC. Minister Eby was joined by German, a classic quadruple threat. Quite boring really. Lawyer (BC and Ont), former RCMP member of 31 years, Correctional Service Regional Deputy Commissioner, money laundering expert and textbook writer, PhD, and Queen’s Counsel. He does not, so far as we know, hold any Olympic medals, important medical patents or Eurovision victories.
Those who tuned in to the live stream, as I did, were given a summary rundown of the astonishing links between BC’s broken regulation of casinos, the absurd Vancouver real estate market, and the devastating opioid crisis.
The “Vancouver Model” of money laundering revealed in the report is a trailer of BC’s shame, although this was not the first we have heard of it. The BC AG had appeared in Ottawa a few months back to sound the alarm before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance.
But few had seen the actual report until today.

I’m using the term “casinos” instead of “service provider”, but basically these are the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation, Gateway Casinos & Entertainment, and Paragon Gaming.

R1 – Gaming Control Act (B.C.) be amended to facilitate the recommendations in the report.
R2 – GCA clearly delineate the roles and responsibilities of BCLC and the regulator, the Gaming Policy & Enforcement Branch.
Crown Corporation – BCLC
R3 – BCLC in concert with casinos and regulator, annually review the source of funds declarations (to see if adjustments are needed).
R4 T- BCLC remind casinos not to accept cash if they are not satisfied with a source of funds declaration.
Federal Reporting
R5 – make casinos responsible for completing reports to FinTRAC, including STRs (suspicious transaction reports).
R6 – discuss with FinTRAC how to get casinos to directly report to them, or at least how to get BCLC to do this.
R7 – BCLC provide Corporate STRs if its files contain relevant information not contained within an STR from a casino.
R8 – casinos develop the necessary capacity to assess risk and perform due diligence on suspicious transactions.
R9 – casinos copy STRs to BCLC, the regulator and a new designated policing unit (DPU), and the RCMP.
R10 – the regulator/DPU have access to iTRAK in its offices.

R11 – eliminate existing “suspicious currency transaction” and “unusual financial transaction” reporting.

*Put a Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch investigator on shift 24/7 at high volume casinos.

In the Dirty Money report, at paras. 433-434, we get this less than sterling example of enforcement from an old Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch report:
A GPEB investigator reported that in September 2010, a patron entered the Starlight casino with $3.1 million, of which $2.6 million was in $20 denominations, bundled in bricks of $10,000, wrapped with an elastic band at either end and carried in inexpensive plastic bags. The same patron made numerous other buy-ins, always with used currency. Sometimes he left the casino and returned minutes later with another bag of cash. He was known to associate with individuals who had previously been involved in loan sharking.
On November 24, 2010, GPEB wrote a letter to BCLC expressing concern over the September 2010 buy-in. Despite having filed an STR on the transaction, BCLC responded
that the patron’s buy-in patterns “does not meet the criteria that would indicate he is actively laundering money in British Columbia casinos.”Praise for journalists

Seeing that the “Vancouver Model” is a term touting an especially profitable and bespoke money laundering strategy developed in BC, it comes as no surprise that BC’s approach to enforcement is hardly the beacon other jurisdictions turn to for enforcement wisdom.
German recounts an exchange with Nevada authorities at para 872 of the report:
I met with the Deputy Chief of the Enforcement Division, who heads the Las Vegas office, as well as with one of the investigators. I hypothesized that a box of cash arrived with rubber
bands at a cash cage. What would occur? The officers doubted that this would occur in Las Vegas, although it might have happened in the past. Today, their expectation is that the
casino will contact the on-duty enforcement agent, who would attend at the casino and deal with the suspicious money.
Attorney General Eby spoke to the need for a new casino regulator, one with dedicated police agents, and stricter reporting of suspicious cash transactions. But when it came to questions over commencing a full public inquiry launched by the government, Minister Eby noted that those are long processes and that this is a matter of urgency.

German upholds the regulatory efforts of the Law Society of BC, and gives it credit for keeping its own house in order. But the independence of lawyers to run trust accounts under the protection of solicitor client privilege is targeted.
German says, at para. 971:
Without question, the absence of reporting by lawyers to FinTRAC is a gap in Canada’s AML regime and is a significant impediment to police investigations […]. Canada is an outlier, as other common law jurisdictions, including the United Kingdom, have robust provisions in place which require financial reporting by lawyers. Although not an answer to the issue, the Law Society of B.C. is leading the way in terms of self-regulation of lawyers and has extensive policy in place regarding lawyers receiving and recording cash transactions.

BC casino scandal gets dirtier as report reveals anti-money laundering investigators got bonuses for higher BCLC gambling revenue.
If you haven’t heard about the money laundering investigation surrounding British Columbia’s lower mainland casinos, you must have been living under a rock. Hundreds of millions of dollars were laundered through BC casinos over the last decade. It’s all contained in an investigative report, entitled ‘Dirty Money‘, headed by Attorney General David Ebby.
Just when you thought the scandal couldn’t get any dirtier, it has. According to a scalding report by CBC News, their staff members got hold of government documents (legally, by way of B.C.’s Freedom of Information Act) that suggest investigators, and their managers—the very ones who were in charge of analyzing and identifying suspicious money laundering activities at BC casinos—received kickbacks when BCLCs profits reached a high enough level.BC Casino Scandal Escalates: Bonuses for Investigators
According to the CBCs report, the documents showed the bonuses were awarded annually from 2010 and 2014. Investigators and managers received anywhere from 3.6% to 9.6% bonuses on top of their regular salary, with most falling between 6% and 8%. The size of the bonuses were based on how much money the BCLC generated in annual gambling revenue.
The salaries for investigators ranged from $61,000 to $84,000, while their managers were pulling in salaries of $78,000 to $102,000 per year. All bonuses were paid on top of that.
As an example, the CBC report states that in 2013, one manager of anti-money laundering investigations received a $102,000 salary. In addition, he was awarded a 6.34% bonus, which amounted to an extra $6,469.38.Former GPEB Senior Investigations Director ‘Astounded’
CBC spoke with Joe Schalk, a former Senior Director of Investigations for British Columbia’s Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch. He said the news “astounds” him, pointing to a “conflict” of interest, at the least.
“At that time, the amount of suspicious currency that was coming into the casinos was just increasing by the millions and millions and millions of dollars each year,” said Schalk. “In 2014 it was $175 million plus, where just five years before it had been $60 to $70 million being reported.” About 75% of that, says Schalk, came through in the form of $20 bills—exactly the size that should have raised glaring red flags.
“It doesn’t seem right that a bonus system should apply for the intake of money,” continued Schalk. “It just seems wrong….the perception might be the suspicious currency that comes in or is allowed to come in, maybe the higher the bonuses.”Change in Law Ended Bonuses in 2014, Sort of…

The Canadian province of British Columbia will conduct a formal inquiry into money laundering activity following recent revelations of funny money flowing throwing BC casinos. When former RCMP deputy commissioner Peter German brought down his Dirty Money report in June, he guessed the amount of suspicious cash laundered through B.C. Casinos ’exceeded $100 million’ over.
*This means that the B.C. Government’s already low official estimate of just $100 million laundered in B.C. Casinos — which came from former Mountie Peter German’s independent casino money.
*VANCOUVER — Larger amounts of suspicious cash with suspected links to money laundering and organized crime began showing up at British Columbia’s casinos while the province prepared to host the.
*The new report issued in terms of money-laundering schemes associated with casino gambling in British Columbia raised some questions on the respond of the former Liberal Government of the province to the schemes which might have resulted in “washing” a massive amount of dirty money obtained illegally.
At 9:30 PDT this morning (June 27, 2018) BC Attorney General David Eby QC convened a press conference to discuss the release of the much anticipated report by Peter German QC. Minister Eby was joined by German, a classic quadruple threat. Quite boring really. Lawyer (BC and Ont), former RCMP member of 31 years, Correctional Service Regional Deputy Commissioner, money laundering expert and textbook writer, PhD, and Queen’s Counsel. He does not, so far as we know, hold any Olympic medals, important medical patents or Eurovision victories.
Those who tuned in to the live stream, as I did, were given a summary rundown of the astonishing links between BC’s broken regulation of casinos, the absurd Vancouver real estate market, and the devastating opioid crisis.
The “Vancouver Model” of money laundering revealed in the report is a trailer of BC’s shame, although this was not the first we have heard of it. The BC AG had appeared in Ottawa a few months back to sound the alarm before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance.
But few had seen the actual report until today.

In the Dirty Money report, at paras. 433-434, we get this less than sterling example of enforcement from an old Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch report:
A GPEB investigator reported that in September 2010, a patron entered the Starlight casino with $3.1 million, of which $2.6 million was in $20 denominations, bundled in bricks of $10,000, wrapped with an elastic band at either end and carried in inexpensive plastic bags. The same patron made numerous other buy-ins, always with used currency. Sometimes he left the casino and returned minutes later with another bag of cash. He was known to associate with individuals who had previously been involved in loan sharking.
On November 24, 2010, GPEB wrote a letter to BCLC expressing concern over the September 2010 buy-in. Despite having filed an STR on the transaction, BCLC responded
that the patron’s buy-in patterns “does not meet the criteria that would indicate he is actively laundering money in British Columbia casinos.”Praise for journalists

Seeing that the “Vancouver Model” is a term touting an especially profitable and bespoke money laundering strategy developed in BC, it comes as no surprise that BC’s approach to enforcement is hardly the beacon other jurisdictions turn to for enforcement wisdom.
German recounts an exchange with Nevada authorities at para 872 of the report:
I met with the Deputy Chief of the Enforcement Division, who heads the Las Vegas office, as well as with one of the investigators. I hypothesized that a box of cash arrived with rubber
bands at a cash cage. What would occur? The officers doubted that this would occur in Las Vegas, although it might have happened in the past. Today, their expectation is that the
casino will contact the on-duty enforcement agent, who would attend at the casino and deal with the suspicious money.
Attorney General Eby spoke to the need for a new casino regulator, one with dedicated police agents, and stricter reporting of suspicious cash transactions. But when it came to questions over commencing a full public inquiry launched by the government, Minister Eby noted that those are long processes and that this is a matter of urgency.

German upholds the regulatory efforts of the Law Society of BC, and gives it credit for keeping its own house in order. But the independence of lawyers to run trust accounts under the protection of solicitor client privilege is targeted.

Without question, the absence of reporting by lawyers to FinTRAC is a gap in Canada’s AML regime and is a significant impediment to police investigations […]. Canada is an outlier, as other common law jurisdictions, including the United Kingdom, have robust provisions in place which require financial reporting by lawyers. Although not an answer to the issue, the Law Society of B.C. is leading the way in terms of self-regulation of lawyers and has extensive policy in place regarding lawyers receiving and recording cash transactions.

BC casino scandal gets dirtier as report reveals anti-money laundering investigators got bonuses for higher BCLC gambling revenue.
If you haven’t heard about the money laundering investigation surrounding British Columbia’s lower mainland casinos, you must have been living under a rock. Hundreds of millions of dollars were laundered through BC casinos over the last decade. It’s all contained in an investigative report, entitled ‘Dirty Money‘, headed by Attorney General David Ebby.
Just when you thought the scandal couldn’t get any dirtier, it has. According to a scalding report by CBC News, their staff members got hold of government documents (legally, by way of B.C.’s Freedom of Information Act) that suggest investigators, and their managers—the very ones who were in charge of analyzing and identifying suspicious money laundering activities at BC casinos—received kickbacks when BCLCs profits reached a high enough level.BC Casino Scandal Escalates: Bonuses for Investigators
According to the CBCs report, the documents showed the bonuses were awarded annually from 2010 and 2014. Investigators and managers received anywhere from 3.6% to 9.6% bonuses on top of their regular salary, with most falling between 6% and 8%. The size of the bonuses were based on how much money the BCLC generated in annual gambling revenue.
The salaries for investigators ranged from $61,000 to $84,000, while their managers were pulling in salaries of $78,000 to $102,000 per year. All bonuses were paid on top of that.
As an example, the CBC report states that in 2013, one manager of anti-money laundering investigations received a $102,000 salary. In addition, he was awarded a 6.34% bonus, which amounted to an extra $6,469.38.Former GPEB Senior Investigations Director ‘Astounded’
CBC spoke with Joe Schalk, a former Senior Director of Investigations for British Columbia’s Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch. He said the news “astounds” him, pointing to a “conflict” of interest, at the least.
“At that time, the amount of suspicious currency that was coming into the casinos was just increasing by the millions and millions and millions of dollars each year,” said Schalk. “In 2014 it was $175 million plus, where just five years before it had been $60 to $70 million being reported.” About 75% of that, says Schalk, came through in the form of $20 bills—exactly the size that should have raised glaring red flags.
“It doesn’t seem right that a bonus system should apply for the intake of money,” continued Schalk. “It just seems wrong….the perception might be the suspicious currency that comes in or is allowed to come in, maybe the higher the bonuses.”Change in Law Ended Bonuses in 2014, Sort of…

At first glance, the code seems fine. When the thread starts executing, we setup a QTimer thats going to run in the current thread’s event queue. We connect the onTimeout() to the timeout signal. Then we except it works in the worker thread?

Oh, No!!! They get called in the main thread instead of the work thread.

In fact, according to above statements, the first workaround is wrong too. As onTimeout() which is a member of our Thread object, get called from the creating thread too.

Though this works perfect, but you may have notice that, when event loop QThread::exec() is used in the worker thread, the code in the QThread::run() seems has nothing to do with QThread itself.

If we only want to make use of QThread::exec(), which has been called by QThread::run() by default, there will be no need to subclass the QThread any more.

Thanks to a mechanism called queued connections, it is safe to connect signals and slots across different threads. If all the across threads communication are done though queued connections, the usual multithreading precautions such as QMutex will no longer need to be taken.In short

The QThread class provides a platform-independent way to managethreads.
A QThread object manages one thread of control within theprogram. QThreads begin executing in run(). By default, run() starts the event loop by callingexec_() and runs a Qt event loopinside the thread.
You can use worker objects by moving them to the thread usingQObject.moveToThread().

For example, what should we do if we want to do something periodly in the worker thread?

At first glance, the code seems fine. When the thread starts executing, we setup a QTimer thats going to run in the current thread’s event queue. We connect the onTimeout() to the timeout signal. Then we except it works in the worker thread?
But, the result of the example is
Oh, No!!! They get called in the main thread instead of the work thread.

In fact, according to above statements, the first workaround is wrong too. As onTimeout() which is a member of our Thread object, get called from the creating thread too.

Though this works perfect, but you may have notice that, when event loop QThread::exec() is used in the worker thread, the code in the QThread::run() seems has nothing to do with QThread itself.
So can we move the object creation out of the QThread::run(), and at the same time, the slots of they will still be called by the QThread::run()?Usage 2-0
If we only want to make use of QThread::exec(), which has been called by QThread::run() by default, there will be no need to subclass the QThread any more.

In this example, both of the QTimer and Worker are moved to the sub-thread. In fact, moving QTimer to sub-thread is not required.

The QThread class provides a platform-independent way to managethreads.
A QThread object manages one thread of control within theprogram. QThreads begin executing in run(). By default, run() starts the event loop by callingexec_() and runs a Qt event loopinside the thread.
You can use worker objects by moving them to the thread usingQObject.moveToThread().
The code inside the Worker’s slot would then execute in aseparate thread. However, you are free to connect the Worker’sslots to any signal, from any object, in any thread. It is safe toconnect signals and slots across different threads, thanks to amechanism called queuedconnections.
Another way to make code run in a separate thread, is tosubclass QThread and reimplement run(). For example:
In that example, the thread will exit after the run function hasreturned. There will not be any event loop running in the threadunless you call exec_().
It is important to remember that a QThread instance lives in the old thread thatinstantiated it, not in the new thread that calls run(). This means that all of QThread’squeued slots will execute in the old thread. Thus, a developer whowishes to invoke slots in the new thread must use the worker-objectapproach; new slots should not be implemented directly into asubclassed QThread.
When subclassing QThread, keep in mind that the constructorexecutes in the old thread while run() executes in the new thread. If amember variable is accessed from both functions, then the variableis accessed from two different threads. Check that it is safe to doso.

Ben Zamani added another impressive win to his poker resume earlier this week by taking down the main event at the River Poker Series at the WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Oklahoma.
Zamani, the reigning World Poker Tour Player of the Year, outlasted a 926-player field in the $2,500 No-Limit Hold’em tournament. The win earned him $347,134 from the $2,173,333 prize pool. If that first-place prize total seems a bit off, you’re right, but we’ll get to that in a moment.
Zamani displayed his poker acumen throughout the tournament, especially on the final day leading into the final table. At one point Zamani looked like he was headed for the rail down to only 10 big blinds. He went on a miraculous run to move into third in chips at the final table and eventually conquer the entire tournament.
When there were only two players left standing it came down to China’s Chengce Jiang and Zamani heads-up for the tournament title. Before the first hand of heads-up play was dealt out the two agreed on a deal to split the pot. Jiang, who began heads-up play with a slight lead in chips, was guaranteed $297,760, while Zamani was guaranteed at least $287,134. They left $60,000 out of the split which would eventually go to the winner.
Zamani wrestled the chip lead away from Jiang before finishing him off on the final hand with the blinds at 100,000/200,000. In the final hand both players limped in pre-flop. The flop delivered 9-Spades, 6-Spades, 7-Clubs and both players checked.Benjamin Zamani Poker
The turn was the 2-Diamonds and Zamani bet 350,000. Jiang pushed all-in and Zamani called. Jiang showed 8-Clubs, 2-Spades giving him a pair of twos and an open-ended straight draw. Zamani had 10-Diamonds, 9-Hearts, good enough for top pair and a gut-shot straight draw.

Absolute Poker pro Mark Seif and online gamer Ben “xthesteinx” Zamani are among the leaders after one day of play in the World Poker Tour’s (WPT) L.A. Poker Classic. Day 2 takes place today at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles.
A total of 745 players entered the $10,000 buy-in tournament, up a solid 7% from last year’s count of 696. A tent was set up outside the casino to accommodate the extra demand in a scene that was likely reminiscent of the 2006 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event. The top 72 players will finish in the money when the final cards are dealt on Thursday and first place will pocket $1.8 million. The minimum payout is over $18,000.

Abrasive comic Don Rickles, the honorary Rat Pack member and celebrity roast guest whose career spanned six decades, has died. He was 90.
Rickles died Thursday morning at his home in Los Angeles from kidney failure, his longtime publicist Paul Shefrin confirmed. He would have turned 91 on May 8.
Though he appeared in films and on television, Rickles’ mainstay was always nightclub performances, appearing in Las Vegas and elsewhere into his late 80s. He also found late success as the voice of Mr. Potato Head in the “Toy Story” films, which were exceptional box office performers, and popped up frequently on latenight talkshows.
Rickles’ career had its ups and downs as comedic tastes changed, and his curmudgeonly persona was sometimes out of kilter with audience tastes, but he survived long after many of his contemporaries had disappeared into retirement. And when he was hot, he was a potent club headliner, insulting his audience with his two key signature phrases “dummy” and “hockey puck.”
His attempts at series TV did not succeed because of the astringency of Rickles’ personality. His serious side, however, was occasionally put to good use in guest starring roles in episodic TV and the occasional dramatic role in movies such as his first, “Run Silent, Run Deep,” and Martin Scorsese’s 1995 film “Casino.”
Donald Jay Rickles was born in Manhattan and studied acting at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York after serving in the Navy during WWII.
He began appearing in nightclubs during the ’50s but didn’t really break through until his first appearance on “The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson” in 1965.
In the meantime, he worked in movies. After his debut in WWII submarine drama “Run Silent, Run Deep” (1958), he appeared in the Tony Curtis-Debbie Reynolds romantic comedy “The Rat Race” and various AIP beach movies with Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon.
After the Carson appearance, he achieved headliner status in Vegas, Reno and Lake Tahoe, and he was frequently seen in the company of Frank Sinatra’s Rat Pack.
He took to the stage in the L.A. production of Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple,” playing Felix. Later he took “The Don Rickles Show” on tour around the country. He also made more movies, including Carl Reiner’s “Enter Laughing” and WWII heist comedy “Kelly’s Heroes.”
His first try at a TV series, CBS’ “Kibbe Hates Finch” in 1965, never got beyond a pilot. Variety series “The Don Rickles Show” lasted a single season in 1969-69, and his mid-’70s sitcom “C.P.O. Sharkey” lasted two. He co-hosted reality clip show “Foul-Ups, Bloops and Blunders” with Steve Lawrence for a single season in 1983-84 on ABC. His last attempt was Fox’s 1993 sitcom “Daddy Dearest” co-starring Richard Lewis, which quickly folded.
More successful were his guest starring appearances on TV in a variety of shows including comedies such as “Archie Bunker’s Place,” “The Lucy Show,” “F Troop” (in a recurring role as Bald Eagle), “Get Smart,” “Newhart” and, in 2011, “Hot in Cleveland.” He also acquitted himself on TV dramas like “Medical Center” and “Chrysler Theater.” He guested on “The Single Guy” and “Murphy Brown” in the late ’90s, appeared in a supporting role in 2004 telepic “The Wool Cap” and appeared as himself within a dream sequence in a 2007 episode of CBS drama “The Unit.”
Bob Newhart, Tom Hanks, Other Stars Remember Don Rickles: ‘A God Died Today’
In January 2005, Rickles appeared with Bob Newhart, whom he considered his best friend, on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” the day after Johnny Carson’s death to reminisce about their many guest appearances on Carson’s show.
During the late ’70s and a good part of the ’80s, Rickles’ humor was out of fashion, and while he continued appearing at casinos, the luster of his star had faded. Then, things turned around again, and a new generation of comedians that he had influenced came into favor. Rickles was once again in vogue.
Rickles’ humor, while enjoyed better in person, also landed on record with albums such as “Hello Dummy!” and “Don Rickles Speaks.”
In Scorsese’s 1995 film “Casino,” Rickles had a substantial role as a trusted cohort to Robert De Niro’s casino owner. And the “Toy Story” animated features kept Rickles busy, voicing Mr. Potato Head in the 1995 original, the 1999 sequel and the enormously successful third entry in 2010. He reprised the role in a 2011 short called “Hawaiian Vacation,” and he voiced the Frog character in the 2011 live action/animated hybrid “Zookeeper,” starring Kevin James and Rosario Dawson.
The comedian’s memoir, “Rickles’ Book,” was published in 2007. John Landis directed a documentary on Rickles, “Mr. Warmth: The Don Rickles Project,” which debuted on HBO the same year. For his performance in the documentary, Rickles won an Emmy for individual performance in a variety or music program.
In May 2014 the funnyman was saluted by the likes of David Letterman, Jerry Seinfeld and Jon Stewart in the Spike TV special “One Night Only: An All-Star Comedy Tribute to Don Rickles.”
Survivors include Rickles’ wife of 52 years, Barbara; a daughter; and two grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Larry Rickles Endowment Fund at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Abrasive comic Don Rickles, the honorary Rat Pack member and celebrity roast guest whose career spanned six decades, has died. He was 90.
Rickles died Thursday morning at his home in Los Angeles from kidney failure, his longtime publicist Paul Shefrin confirmed. He would have turned 91 on May 8.
Though he appeared in films and on television, Rickles’ mainstay was always nightclub performances, appearing in Las Vegas and elsewhere into his late 80s. He also found late success as the voice of Mr. Potato Head in the “Toy Story” films, which were exceptional box office performers, and popped up frequently on latenight talkshows.
Rickles’ career had its ups and downs as comedic tastes changed, and his curmudgeonly persona was sometimes out of kilter with audience tastes, but he survived long after many of his contemporaries had disappeared into retirement. And when he was hot, he was a potent club headliner, insulting his audience with his two key signature phrases “dummy” and “hockey puck.”
His attempts at series TV did not succeed because of the astringency of Rickles’ personality. His serious side, however, was occasionally put to good use in guest starring roles in episodic TV and the occasional dramatic role in movies such as his first, “Run Silent, Run Deep,” and Martin Scorsese’s 1995 film “Casino.”
Donald Jay Rickles was born in Manhattan and studied acting at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York after serving in the Navy during WWII.
He began appearing in nightclubs during the ’50s but didn’t really break through until his first appearance on “The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson” in 1965.
In the meantime, he worked in movies. After his debut in WWII submarine drama “Run Silent, Run Deep” (1958), he appeared in the Tony Curtis-Debbie Reynolds romantic comedy “The Rat Race” and various AIP beach movies with Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon.
After the Carson appearance, he achieved headliner status in Vegas, Reno and Lake Tahoe, and he was frequently seen in the company of Frank Sinatra’s Rat Pack.
He took to the stage in the L.A. production of Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple,” playing Felix. Later he took “The Don Rickles Show” on tour around the country. He also made more movies, including Carl Reiner’s “Enter Laughing” and WWII heist comedy “Kelly’s Heroes.”
His first try at a TV series, CBS’ “Kibbe Hates Finch” in 1965, never got beyond a pilot. Variety series “The Don Rickles Show” lasted a single season in 1969-69, and his mid-’70s sitcom “C.P.O. Sharkey” lasted two. He co-hosted reality clip show “Foul-Ups, Bloops and Blunders” with Steve Lawrence for a single season in 1983-84 on ABC. His last attempt was Fox’s 1993 sitcom “Daddy Dearest” co-starring Richard Lewis, which quickly folded.
More successful were his guest starring appearances on TV in a variety of shows including comedies such as “Archie Bunker’s Place,” “The Lucy Show,” “F Troop” (in a recurring role as Bald Eagle), “Get Smart,” “Newhart” and, in 2011, “Hot in Cleveland.” He also acquitted himself on TV dramas like “Medical Center” and “Chrysler Theater.” He guested on “The Single Guy” and “Murphy Brown” in the late ’90s, appeared in a supporting role in 2004 telepic “The Wool Cap” and appeared as himself within a dream sequence in a 2007 episode of CBS drama “The Unit.”

In January 2005, Rickles appeared with Bob Newhart, whom he considered his best friend, on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” the day after Johnny Carson’s death to reminisce about their many guest appearances on Carson’s show.
During the late ’70s and a good part of the ’80s, Rickles’ humor was out of fashion, and while he continued appearing at casinos, the luster of his star had faded. Then, things turned around again, and a new generation of comedians that he had influenced came into favor. Rickles was once again in vogue.
Rickles’ humor, while enjoyed better in person, also landed on record with albums such as “Hello Dummy!” and “Don Rickles Speaks.”
In Scorsese’s 1995 film “Casino,” Rickles had a substantial role as a trusted cohort to Robert De Niro’s casino owner. And the “Toy Story” animated features kept Rickles busy, voicing Mr. Potato Head in the 1995 original, the 1999 sequel and the enormously successful third entry in 2010. He reprised the role in a 2011 short called “Hawaiian Vacation,” and he voiced the Frog character in the 2011 live action/animated hybrid “Zookeeper,” starring Kevin James and Rosario Dawson.
The comedian’s memoir, “Rickles’ Book,” was published in 2007. John Landis directed a documentary on Rickles, “Mr. Warmth: The Don Rickles Project,” which debuted on HBO the same year. For his performance in the documentary, Rickles won an Emmy for individual performance in a variety or music program.
In May 2014 the funnyman was saluted by the likes of David Letterman, Jerry Seinfeld and Jon Stewart in the Spike TV special “One Night Only: An All-Star Comedy Tribute to Don Rickles.”
Survivors include Rickles’ wife of 52 years, Barbara; a daughter; and two grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Larry Rickles Endowment Fund at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

The Second slot of CAT 2017 took place today between 2:30 and 5:30 pm. . THE PROCESS
The administrative process of the test in the first slot was smooth. However, taking into account the scale of the examination, minor discomforts and technical glitches occurred at a few centers in Mumbai which were immediately taken care of by the authorities and the exam was conducted smoothly.
As in the past the policy of no-shoes no metallic objects including metal jewelry prevailed. Only the admit card and the ID proof were allowed. Nothing else!Cat 2018 Slot 2 Answer Key
As in the previous year, the authorities took possession of the admit cards. The candidates were given a small pad with IIM CAT Logo on the cover(16 pages or so) for rough work and a pen – which were also taken away at the end of the exam.TEST INTERFACE
The test interface was exactly what IMS students are used to in the SimCATs.
It was a very user friendly interface and exactly the one provided in the official CAT Mock Test. There were no sub-divisions within each section. The VA-RC questions were NOT interspersed within the section. Several IMS SimCATs had had the same format with Questions from 1 to 24 in Reading Comprehension and 25 to 34 in Verbal Ability.
A simple calculator was provided, and not a scientific one. There was an arrow provided near the question palette which when clicked expanded the question window to full screen view by hiding the question palette & vice versa.
At the end of the test, a summary of number of questions attempted, visited and not visited was displayed for each section.OVERVIEW OF THE TEST
CAT 2017 in the second slot, just like the first slot, was an extremely student friendly test! And, Slot 2 offered a comparatively easier DI LR section unlike in slot 1.
The overall structure of CAT 2017 was exactly that of CAT 2016. The test started with the Verbal Section, which had 34 questions - 24 RC and 10 VA. The second section was the DI-LR with 32 questions distributed equally between the two areas. The third section was the Quantitative Ability section which also had 34 questions. Each section was timed for 60 minutes. One could not go back and forth between sections. The marking scheme was also similar to last year with +3 for every correct & -1 for incorrect answers. There was no negative marking for TITA questions. However since the ratio remains the same we do not see this as a major cause of concern.

*The overall difficulty level of VA RC Section of CAT 2017 was Easy.
*IMS students must have recalled SimCAT 14 when they saw the actual CAT. Not only in the format which is given below, CAT 2017 actually matched the difficulty level of SimCAT 14.
*The format was familiar.
*The VA-RC section was a replica of the CAT 2016 section in terms of question types. Grammar and Vocabulary questions were again conspicuous by their absence.
*RC had 3 passages with 6 questions each & 2 passages with 3 questions each- most of these questions were direct and easily solvable.
*IMS students have reported that as many as 22 questions were easy!
*The jumbled paragraph questions were, however, moderate to difficult.
Of the 10 VA questions, 7 were TITA and 3 were MCQs. 3 Out-of-context sentence – TITA 4 Paragraph Jumbles – TITA *3 Paragraph summary – MCQs. The pattern of Slot 2 VARC replicated the pattern and difficulty level of the first slot and more importantly that of 2016 CAT and that of SimCAT 14, barring the negative marks assigned to Summary questions.
It was possible to attempt 28 to 30 questions in the second slot which should give you a very competitive score.
*The DI-LR section had a total of 8 sets with 4 questions in each set. There were 4 sets Data Interpretation and 4 sets of Logical Reasoning. The sets on DI involved calculations as well as logic.
*Selection of the right sets to solve was key to a good performance in this section. One set on Data Interpretation involved easy calculations and two sets on Logical Reasoning involved easy arrangements. These sets must not have been missed.
*No Set was completely TITA - TITA questions were dispersed across individual sets. 4 sets were completely MCQ whereas the remaining 4 sets was a combination of TITA and MCQs ( 2 MCQ and 2 TITA). There were a total of 8 TITA questions

*A good student should have been able to attempt around 4 to 5 of these sets (16 -18 questions) in the given time with an accuracy of around 85-90%. The sets that must not have been missed were Set 3, 5 and Set 6.
*Students also reported that a number of sets had additional information pertaining to the last two questions (out of the 4 in the set), that made the set difficult to tackle.
*This section was easy and dominated by Arithmetic with 13 questions followed by Geometry, Algebra, and Modern Math with 5 to 8 questions each.

The second slot of CAT 2017 has been reported to be more or less similar to last year. However the DI-LR section in Slot 2 was slightly easier as compared to the one in Slot 1. VA-RC and QA sections were on similar lines (easy) in Slot 2 as in CAT-2016 as well as in Slot-1 of CAT-2017.

An overall attempt of about 68 to 70 questions with an accuracy of 80 to 85 percent should be classified as a good performance in this test
IMS students have found a great deal of similarity between the SimCATs and the CAT. Several students gave the feedback that the CAT appeared an extension of the SimCATs and the e-Maxmiser Workshops.
According to CAT 2017 results, a score between 245.11-230.17 was equivalent to 100 percentile, a score of 218.79 was equivalent to 99.98 percentile, a score of 218.46 was equivalent to 99.97 percentile, a score 206.23 was equivalent to 99.9 percentile, a score of 170.08 was equivalent to 98.82 percentile. The Second slot of CAT 2017 took place today between 2:30 and 5:30 pm. . THE PROCESS
The administrative process of the test in the first slot was smooth. However, taking into account the scale of the examination, minor discomforts and technical glitches occurred at a few centers in Mumbai which were immediately taken care of by the authorities and the exam was conducted smoothly.
As in the past the policy of no-shoes no metallic objects including metal jewelry prevailed. Only the admit card and the ID proof were allowed. Nothing else!Cat 2018 Slot 2 Answer Key
As in the previous year, the authorities took possession of the admit cards. The candidates were given a small pad with IIM CAT Logo on the cover(16 pages or so) for rough work and a pen – which were also taken away at the end of the exam.TEST INTERFACE
The test interface was exactly what IMS students are used to in the SimCATs.
It was a very user friendly interface and exactly the one provided in the official CAT Mock Test. There were no sub-divisions within each section. The VA-RC questions were NOT interspersed within the section. Several IMS SimCATs had had the same format with Questions from 1 to 24 in Reading Comprehension and 25 to 34 in Verbal Ability.
A simple calculator was provided, and not a scientific one. There was an arrow provided near the question palette which when clicked expanded the question window to full screen view by hiding the question palette & vice versa.
At the end of the test, a summary of number of questions attempted, visited and not visited was displayed for each section.OVERVIEW OF THE TEST
CAT 2017 in the second slot, just like the first slot, was an extremely student friendly test! And, Slot 2 offered a comparatively easier DI LR section unlike in slot 1.
The overall structure of CAT 2017 was exactly that of CAT 2016. The test started with the Verbal Section, which had 34 questions - 24 RC and 10 VA. The second section was the DI-LR with 32 questions distributed equally between the two areas. The third section was the Quantitative Ability section which also had 34 questions. Each section was timed for 60 minutes. One could not go back and forth between sections. The marking scheme was also similar to last year with +3 for every correct & -1 for incorrect answers. There was no negative marking for TITA questions. However since the ratio remains the same we do not see this as a major cause of concern.

*IMS students must have recalled SimCAT 14 when they saw the actual CAT. Not only in the format which is given below, CAT 2017 actually matched the difficulty level of SimCAT 14.

*The VA-RC section was a replica of the CAT 2016 section in terms of question types. Grammar and Vocabulary questions were again conspicuous by their absence.
*RC had 3 passages with 6 questions each & 2 passages with 3 questions each- most of these questions were direct and easily solvable.
*IMS students have reported that as many as 22 questions were easy!
*The jumbled paragraph questions were, however, moderate to difficult.

The pattern of Slot 2 VARC replicated the pattern and difficulty level of the first slot and more importantly that of 2016 CAT and that of SimCAT 14, barring the negative marks assigned to Summary questions.
It was possible to attempt 28 to 30 questions in the second slot which should give you a very competitive score.
*The DI-LR section had a total of 8 sets with 4 questions in each set. There were 4 sets Data Interpretation and 4 sets of Logical Reasoning. The sets on DI involved calculations as well as logic.
*Selection of the right sets to solve was key to a good performance in this section. One set on Data Interpretation involved easy calculations and two sets on Logical Reasoning involved easy arrangements. These sets must not have been missed.
*No Set was completely TITA - TITA questions were dispersed across individual sets. 4 sets were completely MCQ whereas the remaining 4 sets was a combination of TITA and MCQs ( 2 MCQ and 2 TITA). There were a total of 8 TITA questions

These are high level notes for myself (and people like me) who like to know what they’re actually doing when unlocking, rooting, and installing custom firmware on a phone. I’ve done this to varying degrees with my previous two phones, and always end up re-tracing painful footsteps to get things done. So I’m jotting down the bits that are important to me.
Enable the developer menu by repeatedly tapping the Build Number in About Phone. Use this to enable bootloader unlocking in the developer menu. This particular Easter egg might vary among Android versions.
One way or another, get Platform-Tools (package platform-tools) and cd into that directory. I installed CLI Tools and ran sdkmanager platform-tools, which seems to be some kind of Android SDK package manager, but I think it can also be downloaded directly as a tarball or zip file.
This does not work under Oreo. You can push the edited file into system successfully but when you reboot to Android OS, it seems like the file is being replace with original build.prop by bootloader or something. I can confirm none of this methods are working in Moto G5 Plus bootloader unlocked (unrooted). Moto G5s Plus getting new Android security update upto 1 February 2019. The size of the update is around 70.5 MB. This update also includes improved support for Android Messages. There were a few users facing problems using Android Messages on Moto G5s Plus. It seems this issue has been fixed in this update.
Also, download the latest Motorola USB drivers – these know how to talk ADB protocol with your phone, and I presume a chunk of this is vendor specific.
Boot the phone to the primary bootloader, ‘fastboot’ (volume down + power on), and connect it via USB.
Run fastboot oem get_unlock_data to get a hex key. Paste into an editor and join the hex strings into one long string. Discard the rest of the text. Therefore, this output data: –
will be copied and pasted into an editor, and then edited to look something like this: –Bootloader Slot Count Not Found Moto G5s Plus 64gb
This is the hex value you give to Motorola in their unlocking form, they will reply by giving you an unlock code. Curiously, this failed when I used the motorola.com site, yet succeeded when I used what appears to be Motorola’s service in the custhelp.com domain. I believe this is their international service, which looks to be outsourced to another company (is it Oracle?). Anyway, it seems legitimate.
With the unlock code that has been sent to you, run e.g. fastboot oem unlock LAEYQFFXQZSIAK4WI5CT, then run it again as prompted (a safeguard). The second time you run it, the phone will reboot with the unlocked bootloader.
Rooting the device should be a simple matter of copying the su binary to /bin or /usr/bin, but it’s not that simple, not least because actually getting a su binary is frustratingly difficult. There were few trustworthy sources that I could find, and more than a few very dodgy looking sources I found while looking. Bear in mind, this is a tool that has the power to own your device – you should be able to trust it well beyond reasonable doubt.
I am still looking. The whole Android ecosystem has that familiar feel of proprietary hell. Easter eggs, warez-like downloads, lack of concise information. On reflection, this is a sad state of affairs for something that was derived from GNU licenced Free Software. Yet the sports betting and online gambling app that was launched in March 2020 is growing. New partnerships with professional sports teams, including the NFL’s Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders, and Tennessee Titans, will help connect the retail casino presence to the online customer base.
Restrictions from the pandemic have severely affected the majority of MGM’s business. Las Vegas casino revenue dropped 80% and MGM China revenue plunged 95% in the company’s second quarter ending June 30, compared to the previous year. Investors betting on MGM can’t just rely on the BetMGM online growth. A recovery in the retail casino business has to be part of the investment thesis. The market in the U.S. for both retail and online sports betting is just setting up as more states move toward legalization. Both domestic and overseas companies are getting in the game, and now is a good time for investors to narrow down the potential winners.
The movement to legalize sports betting could gain more ground with referendums on November ballots in three states -- Maryland, Louisiana, and South Dakota. Caesars is far from the same company it was last year, and that’s not just because of COVID-19 affecting the casino industry. Caesars was bought by Eldorado Resorts in July 2020 to create one of the largest casino and entertainment companies in the U.S. Besides eight hotel casinos on the Las Vegas Strip, the newly combined companies have regional casino properties spread across 16 states. A more recent move by Caesars revealed more of management’s overall strategy. The company is acquiring British bookmaker William Hill(OTC: WIMHY)(LSE: WMH) for $3.7 billion, with the transaction expected to close in the second half of 2021. Caesars already has a 20% stake in a U.S. joint venture with the British company, and will use full ownership ’to fully maximize the opportunity in the sports betting and gaming sector’ in the U.S.
Caesars has a multi-year relationship with the ESPN sports network and will integrate William Hill’s betting lines into a new agreement. William Hill also already has a relationship with CBS Sports. Between its Las Vegas casino presence, the ability to grow regional sportsbooks, and expanded media ties with the ownership of William Hill, Caesars has put itself at the forefront for capitalizing on growth in legal sports betting in the U.S. An international presence
Flutter Entertainment may not be a household name, because it is based outside the U.S., and listed on the London Stock Exchange. But investors should get comfortable with this international stock, as it has a large cash flow base it is using to expand what is more of a household name in this country.
Flutter is the owner of FanDuel, one of the best known fantasy sports and online sports betting apps in the U.S. Rival DraftKings(NASDAQ: DKNG) is another way to invest in this area, but DraftKings is a pure play with more risk, and a much higher valuation. DraftKings has yet to make a profit, and with its current market capitalization of over $22 billion, it is trading at over 50 times sales.
